What should I check before hiring Downs Carpets and Beds?

This page cannot tell you everything: trade quotes vary based on room dimensions and subfloor conditions. We recommend asking these 9 questions before signing a contract:

1. Subfloor Moisture Test: Will you test concrete subfloors with a digital hygrometer (BS 8203 specifies relative humidity below 75% before laying LVT or wood)?
2. Surface Preparation: Is self-levelling screed or 6mm flooring-grade SP101 plywood included in the written price?
3. Underlay & Tog Rating: What underlay tog is proposed, particularly if underfloor heating (UFH) is present?
4. Expansion Gaps: For timber and LVT click systems, will adequate expansion gaps and colour-matched Scotia or skirting be fitted?
5. Waste & Uplift: Does the quote include uplifting old carpets, door trimming, and legal disposal of offcuts?
6. Written Guarantee: Do you provide a separate written workmanship warranty in addition to the manufacturer material guarantee?
7. Acclimatisation: How long will luxury vinyl planks or timber boards acclimatise in the room before fitting?
8. Public Liability: Do you hold valid public liability insurance covering accidental damage to subfloor pipes or cables?
9. Payment Terms: What deposit schedule is required, and is final payment due only after full customer inspection?
